Community Development

The Community Development Team supports community and voluntary groups within the Council area to build capacity and skills in community development practice enabling community groups to address local need.

Community Development Officers can, on request, provide groups with one to one support to identify need and develop action plans in relation to good governance, improved sustainability, skills development and increased civic engagement.  To support these aims a number of events and programmes are delivered including the Mayor’s Volunteer Awards to recognise the vital contribution that volunteers make across the Council area and Funding Fairs bringing a range of funders together to support community and voluntary groups with support and advice.

One of our key aims is to build capacity and skills in community development practice. To support this aim we have devised a training programme which includes Community Capacity Building, Mediation, First Aid, Child Protection and Food Hygiene. We can also provide more informal training on request including Good Governance and Successful Funding & Fundraising.

We strongly encourage groups to register on the Community Services website to avail of support and information provided by our Community Services Team.  Registration is free and easy just click here.
